I can understand British En. easier than American En.
We have had two quests, one from US the other from UK at university.
I couldn't understand anything from US speaker.

I think UK english is international, not US one. That's why to leran UK english is more useful.

I think it just differs from case to case... For example if u learn English for academical purpose then yes, UK in English is OK, but if u learn it with business or just live contact puposes then it's better to try to learn US one too... It's not so difficult at all, the most difficult part of it is understanding the speaker, but it can be improved by watching movies, most of the movies are in US English... They have just some simple rules, like some shortenings, some different pronouncings of letters.. If u catch them, then everything gonna be OK :)

BTW I like US one :)

I prefer American English. Because to me it sounds very nice. This's the fact that American pronunciation is more difficult than british one, however I like it. I think thanks to Hollywood movies today american accent is very popular all over the world. And politically, the US is more authoritative than the UK. These are my reasons for preferring american english.
